Glorious Distractions
‘Ferns and Bindweed’ is a digital series inspired by organic forms but drenched in the hues of a psychedelic dreamscape. Starting with photographs captured on tablet or camera, I have then edited with Photoshop® or the Photoshop Touch® app. The hue combinations can hold me rapt for hours on end. Although I like the complexity of detail in the photo collages, I only have digital prints made of a small subset of these. Sometimes an idea explored in digital form inspires my paintings in oils and acrylics.
Why ferns and bindweed? I like the shape of the leaves, and, like the vines of grape and passionflower, the curling tendrils are lovely to photograph. Bindweed, also known as ‘Morning Glory’, winds its delicate strands around other plants (like my raspberries) and strangles them under heart-shaped leaves and winsome flowers.
I do have a soft spot for vines …
